Affiliate payouts

We pay affiliate commission via Stripe Express — a Stripe-managed account that handles real-name verification, bank details, and tax forms.

This is not the same as Stripe Connect Standard, which Foan uses for caller payments (see Payments). Different product, different account.

Onboarding

The first time you reach the £25 minimum balance — or any time you click "Withdraw" — Stripe asks you to onboard. The flow:

  1. Real-name verification (passport / ID)
  2. Bank account details (IBAN / sort+account / SWIFT depending on country)
  3. Tax info (W-9 or W-8 equivalent)

Onboarding takes ~5 minutes and is one-time. Once done, withdraw is a single click.

When you get paid

Two paths:

  • Monthly batch — on the 5th of each month, we automatically transfer your previous month's earnings. Funds land in your bank account 1-3 business days later.
  • Manual withdraw — pull money any time your balance is over £25. Same 1-3 business day arrival.

Minimum threshold

£25. Below that, the balance rolls forward — no expiry. We chose £25 because Stripe charges per-payout fees that eat smaller transfers.

What's pending vs available

  • Available — earned and held — affiliate signups whose first payment cleared and survived the refund window. You can withdraw these now.
  • Pending — accrued but not yet released — typically the most recent month's signups, held until the 30-day refund window closes.

The dashboard at /dashboard/affiliate shows both numbers.

Refunds and clawbacks

If a customer you referred refunds within 30 days, we claw back the commission. After 30 days, the commission is locked — even if the customer churns later, you keep what you've earned.

Lifetime commission means: as long as they're paying, you earn. The day they cancel, your earnings on that customer stop. We notify you when an attributed customer churns.

Currencies

Stripe Express does the FX. We accrue in GBP (Foan's billing currency), and Stripe converts to your local currency at the moment of withdrawal using the wholesale rate plus a small spread.

Tax

Stripe issues the appropriate tax form annually based on your country and earnings:

  • US — 1099-NEC if over $600/year
  • UK / EU / rest of world — Stripe self-billing invoice; you handle declaration locally

We don't withhold. You're responsible for declaring affiliate income wherever you're tax-resident.

Common questions

Can I withdraw to PayPal? Not yet — Stripe Express is bank-account-only. PayPal is on the roadmap.

What if my bank account changes? Update it in the Stripe Express portal (linked from /dashboard/affiliate). Takes a couple of minutes; doesn't affect any pending balance.

My country isn't supported by Stripe Express. Email us. We can sometimes find a workaround, otherwise we hold the balance until Stripe expands coverage.
